Android Lollipop Update Arrives for Android Wear Devices News, Details

Android Wear users can now finally get their hands on the latest update of Android 5.0 Lollipop on their devices. This will be the second major update since its launching back in June.

Previously, Wear users need to rely on those "undocumented APIs" for them to customize their devices. To address to the problem, Google recently launched a new section in the Play Store to facilitate the update.

Besides the watch face customization that the new OS update offers, there are also other features that owners need to know of. Posted in Arstechnica.com, here are some of the details of Android Lollipop 5.0.1 for Android Wear:

Easier Navigation

  • Quickly bring a card back if you've accidentally dismissed it
  • When you tap on the watch face, recently used actions now appear at the top of the list

New Modes

  • Quickly access various settings by swiping down from the top of the screen
  • Theater Mode lets you keep the screen off and mute vibrations when you're in a dark room
  • Sunlight Mode temporarily boosts the screen to maximum brightness

App Improvements

  • Easily block notifications from any app, directly from your watch
  • View your apps' usage of battery and storage (in the Android Wear app)

iDigitalTimes meanwhile added information saying that users could also expect the following:

  • Battery and Storage information in the companion app
  • New watch faces (with ability to switch between watch faces via the companion app) and new APIs for displaying weather icons on any watch face
  • The ability to undo (recover) dismissed cards
  • New quick screen brightness toggles (regular, theater mode and sunlight mode)
  • New options for the visual impaired, including text re-size, color-blind options and magnification
  • OK Google will reorder actions based on your previous activity for a smarter, easier experience

As noted, both the Android Wear OS update and the new Companion App are now rolling out, although, it could still take a week or two for them to arrive in every device.
