Android M News, Update: Google's Upcoming OS Rumored to Feature Fingerprint Authentication

Google is expected to unveil one of its most anticipated developments, the Android M, during its I/O event which is slated to take place next week.

The details of the new OS, which has been kept under wraps, was inadvertently confirmed by the Mountain View, CA-based tech mammoth on its sandbox session called "Android for Work Update."

The post was removed by the firm but Ars Technica was able to take a screenshot of the content. Android M "is bringing the power of Android to all kinds of workplaces. "

The tech website together with BuzzFeed was also cited saying that the unannounced OS will likely to feature native fingerprint authentication.

Needless to say, most current-gen Android phones are already sporting fingerprint readers, but these were all made possible via software specifically built by OEM for their respective devices.

If these rumors will come to fruition, this means then that manufacturers can now easily add fingerprint scanner hardware to their devices.

It wouldn't really be a surprise at all if Google will opt to integrate this technology to M. Earlier reports mentioned that the recently released Nexus 6 was supposed to house a fingerprint reader but due to some undisclosed reasons, the device came out without it.

The people from Android Police meanwhile chimed in their take on the story saying that this particular functionality, if ever Google push will push through with it, won't still be usable until later this year because none of the company's current devices has a fingerprint scanner.

This leaves another possibility that Google might release yet another hardware that could facilitate the above-mentioned feature.
