Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt officially married in France over the weekend, their reps confirmed on Thursday.

After nine years together, including a two-year engagement, the superstar couple privately tied the knot on Saturday, Aug. 23, according to The Associated Press. Jolie and Pitt's civil ceremony was nondenominational and took place in a small chapel near their French home, Chateau Miraval. It was attended only by friends and family. In advance of the civil ceremony, Jolie and Pitt obtained a license from a local California judge who later conducted the ceremony in France.

Additional details about the wedding include the couple's six children; sons Maddox, 12, Pax, 10, Knox, 5, and daughters Zahara, 9, Shiloh, 8, and Vivienne, 5. Jolie walked down the aisle with her eldest sons while Zahara and Vivienne threw petals as flower girls. Also, Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers, according to a spokesman.

The wedding news arrives after years of speculation about when Jolie and Pitt would marry. The couple previously revealed low-key wedding plans, but did not reveal details.

"We're just waiting for it to be the right time with the kids, with work, when it feels right," Jolie explained to People. "We talk about it occasionally, and the kids talk about it with us."

Meanwhile, it is Jolie's third marriage; the 39-year-old bride was previously married to Jonny Lee as well as Billy Bob Thornton. Alternately, it is Pitt's second marriage. The 50-year-old actor was married to Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005, when he met Jolie on the set of the film "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

In the coming months, Pitt and Jolie are set to reunite onscreen for the first time in a decade in "By The Sea." The newlyweds will portray a feuding couple in the film, written and directed by Jolie. Filming is scheduled to begin next month near the family's home in Malta, and expected in theaters in 2015.
