Rovio has been keeping people interested in the game by developing variations and additions to the game. Some of the variations include "Angry Birds Space," "Angry Birds Rio," and "Angry Birds Star Wars." Aside from the game itself, the franchise also expanded to merchandise such as toys and apparel, all the more contributing to the appeal of the game. The game also earns through its in-app purchases of power-ups and others.

Rovio has not revealed any details about what the sequel will bring. It is likely that the game's mechanics will basically remain the same: it will still involve birds and a slingshot and will still be a physics-based game. Given that "Angry Birds 2" is the official sequel and not just a variation to the game, the new game may likely contain major upgrades and notable changes compared to the original game and its variations.

Fans need not wait long as July 28 is just two weeks away. On July 30, app stores will carry the sequel for free download.
