Apple iPhone X News: On the Face ID and the $999 Price Tag

As one of the most highly anticipated smartphones in the market, Apple's iPhone 8 should be the center of attention. However, the tech giant also used their keynote event to introduce the iPhone X, which easily overshadowed everything else.

Although it is armed with the highest specs possible, fans are hesitating to buy it because of several reasons including the expensive price and the security risk of the Face ID feature.

Forbes was less than impressed with the Face ID when it was first revealed in the event held last Sept. 12. Consumers can tell a lot from how certain features are advertised. For one thing, the Face ID was marketed as a more convenient way to access their devices, which does not directly mean that it is more secure.

Unfortunately, other modalities such as iris, voice, or fingerprint offers more security as they are harder to track back to a single person. On the other hand, the Face ID immediately gives the unique features of its users and any well-trained hacker might be able to access it.

Despite the backlash that Apple received due to its Face ID, chief executive officer Tim Cook remains to be convinced that it is the way to go as it represents the future of security and smartphones.

"We want to protect your data, because we know it's yours, not ours," Cook told Good Morning America host Robin Roberts, as reported by Daily Mail. "Once you place your face in the phone, it's in the phone - Apple doesn't have it. We've encrypted in on your device, you make the decisions about who has it, not us."

In the same interview, Cook also justified the $999 price tag that also seems to be one of the major concerns of the fans. According to Apple's boss, the price tag is reflective of the technology that users will be experiencing.

Considering that they will have some of the most advanced features to be seen on a smartphone, he claims that the $999 is fair price to pay for something that can last them several years.
