Apple News: iPods Get A Refresh – Better iPod Touch, New iPod Colors
Apple released on July 15 a refreshed line up of its iPod music players and a better iPod Touch after years of not offering any upgrades for their line of music players. The company has finally released the new iPod line through its online store and its retail stores.
The last update received by the music players line up was in in 2012, when Apple unveiled the iPod 5th generation, as well as other upgrades on devices included in the line up. Technology updates and upgrades for the iPods seem to have been relegated to second priority of the company, because of its focus on the iPhones, iPads and its new product line, the Apple Watch.
Among the devices however, only the iPod Touch is getting an upgrade. The rest of the devices are only getting a "fresh coat" of paint. This much was indicated in earlier reports that were circulating prior to the official release.
The iPod Touch, according to the report, is getting a new and better processor, the A8, which is also the same processor on the iPhone 6. It will also have an M8 motion coprocessor for use in fitness tracking, an improved 8-megapixel main camera and a better selfie camera. Aside from the original color options, the new iPod Touch will also be available in gold, blue and pink. Its storage variants will be 16GB ($199), 32GB ($249), 64GB ($299) and 128GB ($399). It will come pre-installed with iOS 8.4, and includes the new Apple Music app.
In terms of specs, the iPod nano and the iPod shuffle still pretty much remain the same, but as mentioned, they get new color options too. These now include gold, blue and pink, aside from the standard space gray, silver and red. The iPod nano retails at $149, while the iPod shuffle is priced at $49.
