Apple Releases OS X El Capitan and iOS 9 to Public for Beta

Apple has already made available to the public the beta versions of its operating systems, the OS X El Capitan and iOS 9. This is exactly one month after both versions of the operating systems were announced at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference last June.

A report in Tech Times mentioned that OS X El Capitan and iOS 9 have already gone through a limited beta with Apple users who have developer accounts since it was announced in June. Now it's the public turn to try them out before their official launch this fall.

Those who wish to take part in the public beta need to sign up with the company's beta software program. One sign up will give access to both the OS X for the Mac and the mobile OS, iOS 9 for iPhones, iPads and iPods. Apple, however, urges those who wish to participate to download the betas onto a secondary device, or a device that one does not use for work.

The beta versions are still expected to have bugs and may cause data loss, so backing up the devices to be used is also advised. Along with the betas, participants will also get a Feedback Assistant app that will facilitate the reporting of bugs as the beta progresses.

Apple will naturally be working on improvements to both operating systems even while the public beta is ongoing. It was not made known how long it will run.

OS X El Capitan, as revealed during the WWDC 2015, will feature Split View, a streamlined Mission Control, smarter Spotlight, public transit info through the Maps app and a new games and app graphics technology Metal.

The mobile OS, iOS 9 on the other hand will also feature Split View and a smarter Siri and is said to be 40 per cent faster and more accurate than iOS 8.
