Apple Rumors, News: Next Gen iPhone to Integrate 2-Lens Camera System

Despite the big disparity in terms of technical specs as compared to the Android-run phone cameras, Apple can still boast the crisp and superb color capture of its iPhone cameras. Now, reports claim that in next year's iPhones, the Cupertino-based tech giant will be making its "biggest camera jump ever."

The rumor, which came from Apple analyst John Gruber, stated that the smartphone giant is currently in the works to unveil a "dual-lens camera system" for its rear camera that is to be integrated probably on iPhone 7.

Citing information "from a birdie of birdie," Gruber said the following statement:

"The specific thing I heard is that next years camera might be the biggest camera jump ever. I don't even know what sense this makes, but I've heard that it's some kind of weird two-lens system where the back camera uses two lenses and it somehow takes it up into DSLR quality imagery."

According to GSMArena, this "two-camera system" isn't entirely new as it has already been integrated by HTC on their recent flagships. The HTC Duo Camera system "uses a secondary depth sensor to produce DSLR-like shallow depth of field, although artificially in software," said the tech site.

This purported breakthrough could also be related to the "interchangeable lens system" which Apple has patented.

"A filing with the US Patent Office (USPTO) from April 1st shows a clever system that allows the attachment of a large lens to the body of the iPhone in a manner somewhat similar (the bayonet and the attachment mechanisms, however, differ) to the Sony's E-mount lenses for Xperia smartphones," PhoneArena reported.

It has to be noted however, that the claims are still unconfirmed by Apple and has to be taken with a grain of salt.
