Apple Watch 3 News: On the Limited Connectivity and How it Compares to Fitbit Ionic

Apple has recently decided to take on the smartwatch world. Their recent release, the Apple Watch 3, is the first to market features that have never been seen before on any wearable device. However, it seems that Fitbit is catching up with their flagship device, the Fitbit Ionic.

The Apple Watch 3 was unveiled during the tech giant's keynote event last Sept. 12. According to them, it is the first wearable device to feature cellular connectivity, and at the same time, function as a watch and a fitness tracker. The feature allows users to send and receive messages, as well as stream music while on the go. Unfortunately, it seems that the Apple Watch 3's LTE connectivity is not available in all parts of the globe.

"If you purchased one (an Apple Watch S3 GPS + Cellular) through the US Apple Online Store, it'll only work for the 4 US carriers. It wouldn't work internationally unfortunately. I'm not entirely sure what type of error it would show if you took a US Watch to Germany, but it wouldn't be compatible with Telekom," an Apple representative told Mac Rumors.

Although the limitation is a definite disappointment for some fans, many would still like to know how it compares to the other smartwatches in the market.

According to a review from PC Magazine, the Apple Watch 3 is for users who would like a better smartwatch whereas the Fitbit Ionic is for those looking for a better tracker. The Apple Watch 3 is able to do more because of its cellular connectivity. On the other hand, the Fitbit Ionic has already refined what the health conscious would like to know, including a blood oxygen monitor, heart rate sensor, and detailed sleep tracking.

With all the features available for each device, it seems that the decision of the consumers will lead up to a single question: do they need to send messages from their watch or do they need it to track their fitness and health?
