'Aquaman' Premiere Delayed to December 2018

Warner Bros. has decided to move the release date of "Aquaman," the standalone film revolving around the titular aquatic superhero played by Jason Mamoa. Instead of an October 2018 premiere, the film will be hitting theaters in December 2018.

"Aquaman" was originally slated to be released on Oct. 5, 2018, but Warner Bros. recently made the announcement that it will be pushed back two months. However, the move may not be all bad, according to Entertainment Weekly, since a Christmas release does suggest that the studio has faith in the film.

With its new December release date, "Aquaman" is now poised to go head-to-head against Sony Animation's Spider-Man movie. The animated film will feature the character Miles Morales.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the December date that "Aquaman" has taken is still currently held by a Fox film, which will be produced by James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment. The film was thought to be "Avatar 2," the highly anticipated sequel to the 2009 Academy Award-winning movie. However, Cameron has said that "Avatar 2" will not be released in 2018 anymore. A new date has yet to be revealed.

"Aquaman" will be directed by James Wan. Joining Mamoa are Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe and Patrick Wilson. Kidman is expected to portray Aquaman's mother, while Heard is set to play the hero's love interest, Mera. Dafoe will play Dr. Vulko, Aquaman's advisor. Finally, Wilson will play Orm Marius, Aquaman's half-brother who is also known as the Ocean Master. Previous reports also state that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is being eyed to portray the villainous Black Manta.

Mamoa made his debut as Aquaman in a short cameo appearance in "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice." For now, fans can look forward to seeing Mamoa reprise his role in the upcoming superhero ensemble film, "Justice League," which will be released on Nov. 17.

"Aquaman" will hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2018. The film will also premiere in 3D.
