The Argentinean province of Corrientes has stated that it is officially "pro-life" after Governor Ricardo Colombi signed a declaration expressing those sentiments.

According to the declaration, which is titled "Decree 2.870," the Corrientes province is "a Pro-Life Province, the defense of life from the moment of conception and the defense of the family being established as a policy of state."

The statement continues, "The effective protection of the right to life from its conception is a fundamental obligation of government, and therefore the unborn child has the complete enjoyment of this right and of its consequent protection."

The decree was signed by Colombi at a conference called the Multisectoral and Ecumenical Encounter in Favor of Life.

The event was organized by local representatives of Catholic and Evangelical churches, called the leadership of the congress, according to the Christian Telegraph.

Some other signatories included Corrientes Archbishop Andres Stanovik, Evangelical Ignacio Telechea and other Catholic bishops.

"All men and women are called to be part of this struggle," said Colombi. The governor also expressed his enthusiasm toward the presence of many young people at the conference. The event was held in the provincial capital city of Corrientes.

"I congratulate these young people who are on this road," said Colombi. He also asked those in attendance to "make an effort and have the courage to carry on this campaign, and to express a fierce defense of the conception of life."

The declaration is just another step in the fight to protect life in Argentina and elsewhere around the world.

Recently in Argentina there was major progress in the fight to protect life after the defeat of pro-abortion measures during the convening of the national congress.

There had already been two incidents regarding legislation concerned with the legalization of abortion that had already been voted down twice at the committee level. President Cristina Fernandez continues to state her opposition to such measures.
