In the first leg played at Estadio de Mestalla, Valencia was quick to establish its presence in the match as Rodrigo scored within the first four minutes of the match.

The score remained 1-0 until the end of the first half, but AS Monaco found the equaliser at the start of the second half as Mario Pasalic scored in the 49th minute to draw level.

However, it only took 10 minutes for Valencia to secure its one-goal lead as Dani Parejo beat the Monaco defence behind an assist from Pablo Piatti.

Then, in the final four minutes of regular time, Valencia made it 3-1 with Sofiane Feghouli finding the back of the net to give the Spanish club a comfortable lead heading to their away leg.

It is an uphill battle for the Ligue 1 club as it has to stop its rivals from scoring in the match as it tries to push for more than one goal in the contest.

The club's current form should be able to help it as Monaco has only lost once – the first Valencia game – in its last 10 matches across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Valencia has had a rough start so far as its only win in the last seven matches in all competitons was the 3-1 win over AS Monaco. Its last outing was a 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish La Liga.
