'Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China' Launch Trailer Reveals New Female Assassin

On Monday, Ubisoft released the launch trailer for Assasin's Creed Chronicles: China, the first of the three 2.5D side-scrolling offshoot games from the popular action game series.

Set for release this week, on April 22 for Xbox One, the game trailer features Shao Jun, the female hero from the 16th Century China who was forced to flee only to return to exact her revenge on the people who wreaked havoc on her city.

As detailed by Gamespot, players will get to travel with Jun in places like the Maijishan Grottoes, the Port of Macau, the Forbidden City as well as in the Great Wall of China.

Like her counterparts in the main game series, Jun is equipped with deadly arsenal of weapons including swords, shoe blade, rope darts, daggers, and many other kinds of equipment.

A game review done by IGN's Vince Ingenito revealed some interesting details about the game.

The publication started off by commending the "well-constructed game." However, the "muted colors and sparse environments" make the various game levels "feel hollow."

"Exploring and seeing how the different paths connect to one another is probably the best part of Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China," IGN wrote.

The battle animations were meanwhile pointed out by the review. Although "smooth" flowing, the side-scroller game version is somehow "devoid of style and energy."

However, the website said that compared to the main titles, the combat in ACC: China seems more "challenging."

"Interestingly, it's more challenging than the combat found in the main series, with precision timing being required to even block incoming attacks," the site continued.

The next two games for the Assassin's Creed Chronicles will reportedly be set in India during the 1840's at the time of the Sikh Empire and then on Russia in 1918 during the Red October revolution.

The game, which was released earlier this week for PlayStation 4, comes free for those who got the Assassin's Creed Unity DLC pass and is priced $10 for those who did not.
