Assassin's Creed Creator Says New Game 'Ancestors' is Non-Violent

Patrice Desilets, creator of "Assassin's Creed," recently shared that his upcoming game under development will be "largely non-violent." Desilets revealed additional tidbits about the game "Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey."

The new game is an AAA game being developed by Desilets under his newly created company based in Canada. He first revealed the game during E3 2015. It is initially known to be a third-person adventure survival game, which goes through some of the important events in human history.

During the interview, he said that the underlying theme of the game is "non-violence." As the human race went through different periods in history and civilization, much of what happened and the actions taken were non-violent. Some of the examples he cited included inventing tools, harnessing technology, discovering new things that would help improve life, among other things.

In order to explain this further, he referred to one section of the game wherein players are expected to play as prehistoric cavemen. Rather than putting emphasis on competition, he says he wants the game to show how caveman evolved from fending for themselves to working with others in order to survive a world that is untamed and unknown.

"Cooperation and compassion are really part of the reason why we survived ... There's no evidence of war before the invention of agriculture on this planet. That doesn't mean they didn't exist, but we've never found any evidence of it," he said. "There's not a lot of human beings on the planet, and once you first come across one, your first thought is not of killing them. It's like, 'Holy s--- there's somebody else! Let's try to help each other to survive because there's not a lot of food and there's a lot of beasts out there.'"

Desilets also shared that what he is currently trying to resolve has to do with the technology. He wants the players to interact with the game's environment and he wants this interaction to be "deep and satisfying" such that taking out violence in the game will not be that big a deal.
