Asus News 2015: Will Asus 'Adopt' Struggling Taiwanese Neighbor HTC?

For the past four years, HTC has suffered loss in its mobile development niche, bowing to other perennial favorites such as Samsung, LG and Sony. Now, more manufacturers from China are taking what should have been HTC's market.

Companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo and ZTE are all vying to become the best smartphone maker in China, and HTC will definitely lose considering the dirt cheap handsets of these phone makers.

On the other hand, Asus has seen a revival in the smartphone industry since last year. After launching the ZenFone 4, 5 and 6 last year, the Taiwan-based manufacturer definitely nailed it with the Asus ZenFone 2 smartphones.

Considering both these details, one would think that Asus could soon be purchasing HTC.

According to a report by GSM Arena, that buy out can happen, but the probability is not that high.

"Our chairman has chatted about the topic internally," said Asustek's Chief Financial Officer David Chang in an interview as reported by Reuters. "Still, the chances of an actual takeover are not big as Asustek is a company that has depended on organic growth."

Both Taiwan-based manufacturers, HTC and Asus may help each other in the long run, as the former is well-versed in design and style, while the latter has succeeded in performance and pricing.

Still, these are just mere speculations until more details are made available.
