Asus PadFone X Release Date Coming on AT&T, Pre-Orders Start on June 6

AT&T announced earlier today that pre-orders for the Asus Padfone X will be available starting June 6 which means its release date cannot be that far away.

The device was first unveiled at CES so its launch has been long anticipated. AT&T has offered a bit of relief after the prolonged wait as customers will be able to pre-order the device through the carrier starting on June 6.

The PadFone X is similar to previous models as it can be plugged into a tablet base. It uses the phone's internals to power tablet mode which makes most things available on the handset work on the tablet. The slate basically functions as a dock that enhances the overall experience of the smaller screen as it doesn't come with any of its own hardware. The company also offers a separate accessory that adds a keyboard dock to the Asus PadFone X's tablet which allows it to function like a laptop.

Specs on the PadFone X include a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU, a 13-megapixel camera, a 5-inch 1080p display, 2GB RAM, PMA wireless charging support and 16GB of storage. The tablet dock has a 9-inch display with a resolution of 1920x1200 and a 4990 mAh battery.

AT&T will offer the PadFone X for $199 on contract. Those looking to avoid making a commitment can purchase it through the AT&T Next program for $22.92 a month or $29.80 a month depending on whether they choose an 18 or 12 month term.

The carrier first announced that it would offer the PadFone X back in January of this year. This will be the first time a PadFone will be sold through the company.
