'Atari Vault' Features 100 Atari Games in One Collection, Coming to Steam in Spring 2016

Fans of such classic Atari games as "Asteroids" and "Centipede" will soon be able to relive their memories. Publisher Atari has announced that these and many more games will be included in its upcoming release "Atari Vault."

"Atari Vault" is the latest PC title from the game company. It bundles 100 of Atari's classic and most iconic games in one collection. However, only five titles, "Missile Command," "Tempest," "Warlords" "Asteroids," and "Centipede," have been confirmed so far. More details on the other games included in the bundle should be announced in the future.

Atari's latest offering will bring with it new features and multiplayer capabilities that will allow fans to "relive the classic gaming experience in the modern age." In particular, "Atari Vault" comes with online and local multiplayer options, an upgraded user interface, and Steam Controller support. Despite of all these improvements, fans will still be able to listen to the game's original soundtracks.

Developer Code Mystics is currently working on "Atari Vault." The game will come out in "spring 2016" to the PC through Steam, but Atari has not announced pricing details yet though.

Before its release, those interested can request for a game demonstration of "Atari Vault" during Penny Arcade Expo (PAX South) 2016. The expo is scheduled to run from Jan. 29 to Jan. 31 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas.

"Atari Vault" is not the company's first foray into re-mastered classics. Back in 2011, Atari released something similar. An iOS app called Atari's Greatest Hits contained 100 classic games for select Apple devices.

The developer is not alone in this practice as well. Other companies have also re-released their classic games. A recent example is the late-90s classic "Grim Fandango Remastered" from developer Double Fine. The game is currently being offered for free to Sony's PlayStation Plus subscribers this month, along with five other titles.
