There Are No Atheists in Hell

Credit :

There are no atheists in foxholes, and there are no atheists in Hell. That's because everyone in Hell understands the justice of their sentence, and everyone in Hell has come to learn that God truly exists.

In this life, men are often not prone to realize the gravity of their sin against God or its consequences. This is the sad reality in spite of how clearly Jesus addressed the topics of sin, judgment, Heaven, and Hell.

But things suddenly change at the moment of your death. You can no longer push it out of your mind once you're in it. The death of your physical body is the beginning of your eternal existence in either Heaven or Hell.

Think of it this way. Most people assume they won't ever get cancer. But for those diagnosed with this terrible disease, reality quickly destroys their previous assumption. The same is true with car accidents, child abductions, and terrorist attacks.

And while many people are able to get through life without experiencing one of those horrible events, the same is not true when it comes to death. Everyone dies, and everyone goes to either Heaven or Hell. God said so.

In this life, atheists subscribe to a blind belief based on "chance." But in Hell, chance is no longer part of anyone's thinking. People in Hell understand the reason for their punishment. They get it, even though they ignored all the clues and the evidence while they were on Earth.

Christianity is a rational faith based on evidence.

First of all, there is the evidence of the fulfilled prophecies. Then there is the evidence of a risen Savior. And don't forget the evidence of millions of changed lives. Rather than basing our faith on chance, we base it on Christ and on Scripture.

Heaven and Hell are as sure as Earth itself. All three places were created by God. Jesus said that Hell was "prepared for the devil and his angels." (Matthew 25:41) The only reason people go to Hell is because they disobey God, which is what got Lucifer kicked out of God's presence forever. (Luke 10:18)

If you want to go to Heaven, you will need to keep God's commandments perfectly, or you will need a perfect substitute who paid for your sins. You may feel that your sins are not "bad enough" to deserve Hell. But God sees it differently.

Here is how God sees man's sin: "Whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it." (James 2:10)

In God's courtroom, all men are sinners. And the only way to be "justified" before God is to have your sins washed away. This is why the Son of God left Heaven and came to Earth. Only Christ could pay for our sins and wash them away with His blood. This is why He died. He was punished in our place. You can either rely upon His sacrifice as your justification before God, or you can go it alone and "take your chances."

But you should realize something. While you may choose to base your worldview on the myth of "chance" while you live on Earth, you won't be able to rely upon that myth once you arrive in God's courtroom. You will arrive there as a sinner, just like all of us. And unless your sins are forgiven, you will be sentenced to Hell. Forgiveness is only granted to a person through faith in Jesus Christ.

There are no atheists in foxholes or in Hell. And there are no atheists in God's courtroom. It's impossible to deny the existence of your Creator when you are looking at Him in all of His glory.

"For we all must appear before the judgment seat of Christ." (2 Cor. 5:10)

If you accept Christ as your Savior, you will no longer live in fear of going to Hell. Perhaps you respond, "But I already live without that fear."

Well, here is what your Creator says about that mentality: "Do not be afraid of those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." (Matthew 10:28)

In other words, gain a holy respect for your Creator and for the fact that He is your Judge. You have fallen short of God's perfect standard. (Romans 3:23) And while that may not seem like a big deal to you right now, the Bible makes it clear that it is indeed a huge deal. In fact, nothing is bigger.

This is why the cross is so important for your day in court. You need the benefits Jesus earned for man on the cross. These benefits are given to those who repent of their sin and accept Christ as Savior. Without that perfect substitute, you don't stand a chance. And your atheism will turn into a nightmare when you meet God on Judgment Day.

There are atheists as well as plenty of other unbelievers on Earth today. But there is not so much as one atheist in Hell. Just former atheists along with many others who chose to go through life without Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Will you give your life to Christ today and trust Him to give you the free gift of eternal life in Heaven? If you do, you will never regret it. If you don't, you will regret it throughout eternity. And the only reason we know this to be true is because God told us so in His Word.

If God had not sent His Son to save us, we would all be lost forever. But God made a way for us to be rescued. So do you want to be rescued, or would you rather go down to the depths of Hell on the doomed ship of atheism?
