AT&T Planning to Unveil Pantech Waterproof Tablet at CES 2012

January 5, 2012|10:03 am

AT&T is planning to unveil a new tablet made by Pantech that is reported to be “waterproof for life” at this year’s consumer electronics show, according to BGR who recently received information confirming the company’s plans.

The tablet’s name is the Pantech Element and along with being waterproof it also features some impressive specifications including a 1.5GHz processor, an 8-inch touchscreen display, Android 3.2 (Honeycomb), 5-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD capture, 2-megapixel front-camera, advanced “Piezo Motor” haptic feedback, 4G LTE and 16GB of internal storage.

However, its waterproof capabilities only allow it to withstand splashes, but customers who end up with an element will not be able to take it in the pool. Fully submerging it in water is not a good idea, according to BGR’s report.

The device will launch on AT&T on Jan. 8 for $299 on a 2-year contract and $449 without a contract.

The consumer electronics show takes place next week from Jan. 10 to the 13. The event will be held in the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada.

It will host many electronics companies and debut many new devices. The Element will be one of many new innovative devices to make its way to CES.

The Element will also be one of AT&T’s first tablets to launch for the company’s LTE network. AT&T recently provided New Yorkers with LTE connection and released three smartphones specifically made for the network including the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, HTC Vivid and LG Nitro HD.

This year is set to be a huge one for tablets with the expected release of the iPad 3 that is rumored to be coming out in two different sizes. The iPad 2 is also expected to receive a significant price drop in order to compete with the mid to low end models created by other companies.
