After the movie "Avatar," director, James Cameron has reported that there will be a second franchise, then later on stated that a third one is also upcoming. Later on, the sequel has gone up to four which will be released back to back.

There have been a lot of delays in production but definitely "Avatar 2" is coming up. Is filming has been delayed but production is expected to begin in April this year. The original schedule of "Avatar 2" was on December 2014 with the third one that was supposed to arrive in December 2015. However, those release dates did not happen. The release dates were then pushed back to December 2016, 2017 and 2018 after the fourth film was added.

However, the story again has been changing because in January of this year "Avatar 2" has been delayed again with no new release date being set.

James Cameron has always been a fan of new technology. He seems to always find new techniques for his new movies. The 3D that was used in Avatar is still used in the industry today. In fact, it has been the reason why 3D exists in a lot of movies lately. That was also a big factor for the film to sell in both the public and the studio.

However, the use of 3D in Avatar was in 2009, so there have been a lot of new things coming up lately. In fact, producer Jon Landau spoke with Douglas Trumbull about a film process which will combine 4K resolution with 3D and high frame rates. This combination is in one package and this is something Cameron would love to input in the sequels.

The Cast

Furthermore, a fourth sequel has been reported so that will be a total of five franchises. The filming will be like a TV miniseries. This is going to be challenging for the cast.

Cameron's stars from the original film are still in contract so fans will still be seeing the same cast of characters in all franchises. The major cast includes, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. All will still be back for the other franchises.

"Avatar 2" is reported to be released in 2018.
