'Avatar 2' release date set for December 2017. Sigourney Weaver returns, a prison theme sets the stage for an epic Human vs Na'vi battle.

It is now confirmed that "Avatar 2" is scheduled to be released on December 2017. More spectacular than "Avatar," the film will bring back the character of Dr. Grace Augustine, played by Sigourney Weaver, who died in the 2009 "Avatar" film. However, Augustine will have a new avatar. According to rumors, "Avatar 2" will have a prison theme, setting the stage for a full-scale Humans vs Na'vi confrontation that will be more brutal than the original film.

Nominated for nine Academy Awards, including nominations for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Visual Effects awards, the 2009 "Avatar" film made box office history by making $760 million at the domestic front and $2.7 million overseas, becoming the highest grosser of all time.

Fans worldwide have been waiting from a long time for "Avatar 2". It was reported that the delay is because James Cameron is developing a special graphics technology to create an entire world in the ocean of Pandora.

Way back in 2014, Cameron, who was writing the plot and script of "Avatar 2" had said that the software was being set up and his team is designing the characters and their looks, and the creatures. He had also said that the film is going to be spectacular as they are going to bring new worlds, new culture, and new habitats. "The primary conflict between the human view kind of dominating nature and the Na'vi view of being integrated into nature is the same, but it manifests itself in very different ways," Cameron said in an interview with RTL, reported by Collider.

There are also reports that "Avatar 2" will have a prison theme. Maybe the new creatures that Cameron spoke about are going to be housed in this prison. The prison might be the battleground for the climactic fight between the Humans and the Na'vis.

Fans will be delighted to know that not only will "Avatar 2" be released in 2017, but there also plans being made for "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4" to hit the screens some time after, since Cameron and his crew are working on all three films simultaneously.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron says, "We're writing three simultaneously. And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We're not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that. And parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments."
