'Avengers: Infinity War Part I' & 'Part II' Cancelled: Disney Merges 2 Films, Second Project Renamed 'Untitled Avengers'; Release Dates & What We Know So Far
"Avengers: Infinity War Part I" and "Part II" will not push through as planned. Instead of a two-part movie, Walt Disney Studios will be releasing "Avengers: Infinity War" as a standalone film while the second project was tentatively renamed "Untitled Avengers."
'Avengers' Movies Retitled
Disney confirmed last year that "Avengers: Infinity War Part I" will be released on May 4, 2018, while "Avengers: Infinity War Part II" will hit theaters on May 3, 2019. However, the film giant announced on Friday, per The Variety, that the titles of the two superhero movies have been cancelled.

But fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe should not worry because two "Avengers" films will still be released on the previously announced dates. "Avengers: Infinity War Part I" and "Part II" will be merged as "Avengers: Infinity War" and will be shown in theaters on the same date in 2018. Moreover, the second film, which is temporarily called "Untitled Avengers," will follow in 2019.
Reason Behind Cancellation of Titles
Disney did not explain yet why the two "Avengers" films were retitled. But Anthony and Joe Russo, directors of the films, have already hinted early this year that there will be changes in the titles of the two upcoming blockbusters to avoid confusion.
"It is misleading," Anthony told Uproxx. "The intention is we will change it, we just haven't come up with the titles yet," Joe added.
The Russo brothers emphasized during the interview that there is a need to change the titles of the upcoming superhero films because they have two separate stories. They added that the new titles will be announced as soon as they figure it out.
What We Know So Far About 'Avengers: Infinity War'
Marvel announced last year that "Avengers: Infinity War" will be shot entirely using IMAX/ARRI 2D digital cameras. This will be the first time that the technology will be used in a feature film.
Aside from using a different technology, there were also reports that Tom Hiddleston's Loki will make a comeback via "Avengers: Infinity War," along with new villain Adam Warlock or Magus. The Russo brothers, who directed "Captain America: Winter Soldier" and "Captain America: Civil War," were slated to begin shooting the next "Avengers" film later this year.
As of press time, Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) have been confirmed to reprise their roles in "Infinity Wars." Stars of the first two "Avengers" films include Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Mark Ruffalo (The Incredible Hulk).
The first two "Avengers" films, which were both directed by Joss Whedon, have raked almost $3 billion worldwide. "The Avengers" earned $1.52 billion in 2012 while "Age of Ultron" grossed $1.41 billion in 2015.
