'Awkward' season 5 episode 2 spoilers and pilot recap: Bromance of Matty and Jake to end?
In the forthcoming episode of "Awkward" titled "Short Circuit Party," Jenna (Ashley Rickards) will become popular as the bromance of Matty (Beau Mirchoff) and Jake (Brett Davern) may come to an end. The official synopsis reads Jenna causes a mishap at school with some astonishing results; Matty will deal with the consequences of his fight with Jake.
The promo for the episode shows Jenna becoming famous after a mishap that causes a power outage in the school, which results to all the students getting a day off. Matt then realizes that he is no longer popular as everyone cheers for Jenna.
The preceding episode began with a series of senior pranks that included streaking naked through the hallways. Jenna overheard Jake and Gabby (Erin Westbrooke) talking about their tryst, and in an effort to get away, she ran into Val (Desi Lydic), the guidance counselor. Val had suspended Jenna from school for the rest of day.

Jenna moped for the rest of the day as she pondered about telling Matty what she had heard. Later on, she went out on a double date with T (Jillian Rose Reed) and their respective boyfriends. Jenna realized that she was still in love with Matty, which is why she did not feel the spark with Brian.
Jenna then forced T to go to school for the senior prank and their boyfriends tagged along. Brian went up the flag pole without a shirt, which prompted Matty to also take off his own shirt. The seniors had put their underwear on the flag pole as another prank. Jenna broke things off with Brian in the school parking lot as T told Jenna that she and Adam have set a date for the wedding.
Theo (Evan Crooks) and Cole (Monty Geer) had set up their own prank in which they filled the hallway with bubbles. Everyone loved it because there was dancing. But then a confrontation happened. Jake blew up at Gabby and he told her that Matty wanted to break things off with her during spring break because Matty still loves Jenna. Gabby then confronted Matty about it and she told him that she slept with his best friend Jake. Matty then punched Jake in the face and asked Jenna if she knew. The look on Jenna's face confirmed it for him.
