'Bad Boys 3' Movie Release Date News: Sequel Confirmed, Plot and Script Development Underway

The action comedy film classic "Bad Boys" will be having its third sequel, Martin Lawrence announced on the "Conan" late show.

During his guest appearance, Lawrence, who played Detective Marcus Burnett, was asked by talk show host Conan O'Brien about the rumors of a third "Bad Boys" installment. The comedian immediately confirmed.

"I believe so, yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday. He said it's real, they're working on the script, they're getting close – and it all looks good," the 49-year-old actor said.

O'Brien even joked about the possibility of him appearing in the movie.

"You know what? You can play a crooked cop on crack," Lawrence jokingly replied.

Rumors of the sequel actually started a month before when Lawrence took to his social media to announce his interest in a new "Bad Boys" project, even tagging his co-star Will Smith to the post.

The Facebook status gathered positive reactions from the fans, implying they are ready for a third helping of the series after 10 years.

The 45-year-old Smith played as Detective Mike Lowrey both in the original 1995 film as well as in the 2003 sequel, which saw them confronting a Cuban drug cartel. The first film reportedly earned over $140 million in the box office, while its second part raked in double that with $270 million.

Both "Bad Boys" 1 and 2 were directed by Michael Bay under the production management of Jerry Bruckheimer.

Further speculation suggested that "Bad Boys 3" would also be helmed by Bay, with the screenplay to be written by Peter Craig and David Guggenheim.

"Bad Boys 3" could be ready for theaters in late 2015.
