'Bad Boys 3' News: Is It Finally Happening?
Barely a year ago, one of the stars of the action movie franchise "Bad Boys," Martin Lawrence, announced that he will be coming back as Detective Marcus Burnett in "Bad Boys 3." Since then, not much has been heard about the sequel, until recently.
According to a report in Deadline, "Bad Boys 3" may be close to happening after all. The report says that the movie may have found a director to helm the next installment, and it's not going to be Michael Bay. Joe Carnahan is said to be in talks to take on the project. Carnahan is known for his work in TV, with "State of Affairs" and "The Blacklist." His feature films include the Liam Neeson-starrer "The Grey," the big screen adaptation of "The A-Team" and the dark comedy "Stretch."
Sony Pictures is said to be keen on moving the movie forward, according to another report in Cinema Blend. They are reportedly wanting to "fast track" this so that Will Smith will have something to consider immediately after finishing work with "Suicide Squad." Will Smith will hopefully consider returning to reprise his role as Detective Mike Lowry.

The script for the sequel has been reportedly been ready since last year, written by David Guggenheim of "Safe House." It is not yet known if Michael Bay, who directed the first two films in the franchise, will be involved in any other capacity for the sequel. He is known for packing a lot of action and violence in the previous movies which fans loved.
Carnahan, being a writer-director, may also be considered to work a bit more on the Guggenheim script and then direct the film as well, according to the Cinema Blend report.
Sony has not yet made any official announcements about the film's casting or its release date. But the report estimates that if it pushes through, it may be released sometime in 2016.
