Bands Compete to Join Festival's Line-up of Top Christian Music Artists

Ten bands will face off this coming weekend for a chance to play among some of today's biggest Christian artists.

The bands – which signed up to join the first-ever battle of the bands competition put together by the organizers of the upcoming Revelation Generation music festival – were chosen after thousands of web surfers casted their votes based on the music posted on the band's MySpace pages.

The lucky winner of RevGen Breakout – as the band competition is called – will gain the right to play as part of the RevGen Festival next to famous Christian stars such Jars of Clay, Brian Littrell, Nicole C. Mullen, Building 429, Falling Up, Phil Keaggy, and of course the Newsboys and Skillet who have made appearances at nearly every Christian music festival this summer.

"This event is something we've always wanted to incorporate into the festival," explained Sean Grom, grassroots marketing coordinator for Revelation Generation, in a statement. "The overwhelming amount of interest from local bands spurred us to finally make it happen. Including the local community always adds to the spirit of the festival. This is an exceptional opportunity for local bands to perform on a professional sound stage along with top notch artists."

Interested bands had signed up via a downloadable application online. After submitting an entry, the participants were then judged based on their music posted on their MySpace page.

The list of competitors was then cut down to ten finalists who will be playing live, rain-or-shine, at the RevGen Breakout event held at the Safe Haven Café in Somers Point, N.J., on July 14. A panel of judges consisting of a radio deejay and reps from Safe Haven and Revelation Generation will then select the final winner.

That band will then be able to perform on one of the stages during the the RevGen fest, the day-long Christian music festival that takes place on Labor Day at Revelation Farms in Frenchtown, N.J.. They will also appear in radio interviews with 90.5 WXGN and several other stations as well as be included in various concert promotions.

"We're also excited about partnering with the Safe Haven Café for the competition," said Grom. "They have a great facility and a large fan base of their own which will surely turn RevGen Breakout into an event to remember."

Besides the musicians that will grace the stages of Revelation Generation, the Sept. 1 event will also include a number of speakers such as main invitee Ron Luce, president and founder of Teen Mania Ministries.

Much like other festivals, the occasion will cater to the whole family and will offer activities for children, worship tents, extreme sports, and inflatable rides.

The main focus of the festival, however, is to encourage today's growing generation and build them up for Christ-centered lives.

"Revelation Generation is a first-rate entertainment event that will call today's young people to live positive lifestyles," explained promoters in a statement, "free of drugs, alcohol and addictions – and use their influence and talents to serve others.

The event will also feature up to 100 exhibit booths featuring local merchandisers, youth ministries, non-profit service organizations, educational institutions, and local churches.
