'Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice' Movie News: Mattel's Wonder Woman Barbie Doesn't Go Down Well With Fans

While Mattel recently earned praises after it released a Barbie based on soccer player Abby Wambach, the same thing cannot be said about its recently-released limited edition Barbie Wonder Woman, which is supposed to look like Gal Gadot's version of the female superhero in the movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

When the Barbie version was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con last year and its promotional photos were released, critics did not pass up the chance to criticize the merchandise. With the photos of the already boxed doll surfacing on the net earlier this month, netizens seem to have become even more unforgiving of Mattel.

According to Daily Mail, many fans have referred to the collectible as having "stick insect-like" body proportions, which is a contrast to Gadot's muscular Amazonian warrior princess look in the movie. For the fans, the Barbie Wonder Woman does not really represent or come close to what Wonder Woman should be like in terms of body form.

While it is true that the picking of Gadot as Wonder Woman did not excite some fans of the female superhero because of her model-thin body structure at the time of the announcement, her appearance in several movie trailers and official photos released by Warner Bros. slowly converted hecklers to followers. In an interview with Empire, Gadot revealed that she had to undergo several months of training before finally suiting up for the role.

Daily Mail also reported that fans of the female superhero became even more displeased with Mattel after its doll versions of Batman and Superman based on Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill's take on the roles in the movie turned out to be more realistic in terms of muscles and body proportions.

Mattel recently made headlines after it announced its new line of Barbie dolls depicting different body shapes and varying heights to make the girls patronizing its products aware of the diversity around them. Apart from the original Barbie, parents and their daughters may now opt to bring home a taller, petite, or a curvy one with a slightly protruding stomach.

Meanwhile, the limited Wonder Woman Barbie comes with a $39.95 price tag and will hit the shelves on Feb. 15.
