In their first meeting at Stadio Olimpico, Lazio were lifted by Balde Keita and his goal in the 77th minute of the match.

It was the only goal of the night but it helps the team get a slight aggregate advantage that they can use in the return leg in Germany.

Despite playing at home, Lazio had less of the possession as Bayer handled the ball 54% of the time and were able to pull out seven total shots – four of them on target.

Meanwhile, Lazio had one less shot and only three were directed towards the goal.

It was also a very physical match as a total of 27 fouls were called between the two teams, resulting in a total of five cautions – four on the German outfit.

As for their current form, Bayer should be positive as they have enjoyed a healthy start in their domestic league.

Currently, they are on par with German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich on points in the Bundesliga – as they have won their first two matches of the season.

Their loss to Lazio is their first in the last seven matches across all competitions.

As for the Italian squad, they also opened their Serie A season with a win over Bolognia. Youngster Ricardo Kishna scored in that match and is hoping to carry that form into the European competition.

Despite the lead, it should be a close game that will be decided in their final 90 minutes as rivals.
