Benfica were given the tough task to face Zenit St. Petersburg and won both legs against a very game opponent.

In the home tie, Jonas Oliviera scored the game's winner in injury time of the second half to give them a slight advantage and something for the fans to cheer about.

When the scene shifted to Russia, Benfica were challenged as Hulk scored for Zenit to tie the aggregate to 1-1 but it was Nicolas Gaitan who put the Portuguese squad back in front with a goal in the 85th minute. Talisca put the finishing touches in the game with a goal in the sixth minute of injury time to give them the 2-1 win and eventually move on thanks to a 3-1 aggregate advantage.

As for the Bavarians, they faced another champion in Juventus as it was dubbed as one of the more interesting clashes in the round.

Juventus held on with a 2-2 draw in their home game but Munich had the advantage of away goals which would help tip the tie to their advantage.

Unfortunately for Bayern, the Turin outfit bounced back in Germany in the second leg and took a 2-0 lead to get the advantage.

Looking for goals, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller scored late in the second half to force extra time to decide the winner.

From there, Munich had the fresher players as they scored twice in the extra period to win 4-2 in the matchup and eventually move on thanks to a 6-4 aggregate win.
