Baylor's Lady Bears Wins NCAA Championship

Baylor University (BU)’s Lady Bears basketball team returned home yesterday to its Baptist-affiliated campus in Texas from Indianapolis with their first NCAA title after gaining victory over the Michigan State Spartans on April 5.

"It's wonderful to have Baylor University given such positive national recognition," said Baylor President Robert Sloan, who will resign from presidency and become university chancellor June 1.

The Associated Baptist Press (ABP) reported that the team finished the season with a 33-3 record, including 20 straight wins. The team celebrated the NCAA championship following the three victories over No. 1 seeds -- North Carolina, Louisiana State University and Michigan State.

Lady Bear’s star center, Steffanie Blackmon, said "It is such a blessing to be here and a blessing to win because this is what we worked so hard for."

“We set goals, and we reached every single one of them. This means a lot for the community," she said.
