Fellow musicians and fans have flooded Twitter to express their grief over the death of Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch, also known at MCA.

The 47-year-old died after a three-year battle against cancer of his salivary gland. Once the news broke on Friday, thousands of Twitter users took to the micro blogging site, including celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, Lance Armstrong, and Fred Durst, among others.

"RIP MCA U are a Legend and a pioneer. #BeastieBoys4life," posted rapper Snoof Dogg.

"Crushed to hear the news of Adam Yauch's passing," wrote iconic athlete Lance Armstrong. "RIPMCA."

"R I P…" wrote Rev Run. "I'm devastated. Praying for Adam Yauch's family from the legendary Beastie Boys. You'll be missed!"

The tweet sent by Rev Run was retweeted over 2,250 times just one hour after the DJ posted it.

Match Box Twenty posted a message about the Beastie Boy on their official Twitter account, writing, "So sad about Adam Yauch.

Rapper Ice T took to Twitter writing, "TERRIBLE NEWS: MCA of the Beastie Boys has died at 47."

"A very sad day indeed," wrote frontman for Limp Bizkit Fred Durst. "Adam Yauch. #RIP."

Actor Marlon Wayans also paid his respects to the rapper, noting Yauch's influence on today's culture.

"Rest [in] peace Adam Yauch," wrote Wayans. "Beastie Boys were always the 'coolest whiteboys' when I was growing up. They erased color lines the opposite way."

The son of The Beatles' John Lennon, Sean Ono Lennon, wrote, "Adam Yauch Rest In Peace. I'll miss you very very much."

Many fans are posting lyrics to famous Beastie Boys songs in honor of MCA, as well as quotes by the late rapper.

"You gotta fight," wrote Mellisa. "For your right. To paaaaarty. R.I.P. adam yauch."

Willy wrote, "Adam Yauch No Sleep till Brooklyn!"

"'I thank everyone for your patience, and letting me speak my mind,'" wrote Marie Claire's fashion director and "Project Runway" judge Nina Garcia, quoting Yauch.

"Absolutely punched in the gut by the passing of Adam Yauch," wrote Scott. "Live your dreams, people."

Another fan, Tom, posted: "Rip dear Adam Yauch. Words can't express the sadness and loss. Ur humor, talent & gentle soul are just irreplaceable. Be at peace brother."
