Ben Affleck Rumored to Be Working on Standalone 'Batman' Film

Before DC's Comic-Con panel, reports have been circulating about Ben Affleck taking on another role in the new Batman franchise. The actor who is playing the role of the caped crusader in the coming "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice," is being eyed to co-write a Batman solo film.

Deadline reported that Affleck will be working with Geoff Johns, who is also Chief Creative Officer at DC Comics on the script for the movie. Aside from penning the script, Affleck is also rumored to direct and star in the film. All of this is supposed to happen after Affleck is done with his other upcoming directorial project, the film adaptation of Dennis Lehane's crime novel "Live By Night." Johns, on the other hand is known for having written several DC Comics classics including "Batman," "Green Lantern," and "Superman."

The reports come before Affleck is set to appear at DC's Comic-Con panel for the movie "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice" on July 12, where a new trailer for the movie will be revealed to fans.

Affleck is also said to have signed on for several movies as Batman. He is slated to appear in the 2017 "Justice League, Part One" and the 2019 "Justice League, Part Two." Beyond that, if reports are true, he may also have signed up to appear in a solo "Batman" movie, which will be the first of its kind after the 2012 "The Dark Knight Rises."

According to the Deadline report, sources in the studio claim that Affleck and Johns are likely to turn in a script to the movie before the end of the summer, before Affleck starts on the "Live By Night" project he is directing. The movie's plot will reflect the same character of the caped crusader that has been developed in the "Batman vs. Superman" movie.

Warner Bros. has yet to confirm the news about Affleck and Johns and the solo "Batman" movie, as well as reveal when they will slate this film for release.
