Unicode 10.0: Best and Worst Emojis to Expect
The Unicode Consortium has just released the complete list of the 69 new emoji symbols that will be part of the Unicode 10 update later this year. The update is expected to be released in June this year, with support coming to Android, iOS, Windows and other systems some time later.
The recent list of emojis include a wide variety of symbols ranging from characters that represent a person climbing, new flags for England, Scotland, Wales, plus support for skin tone modifiers for some of the upcoming characters, as reported by 9 to 5 Mac.
As part of a trend toward emoji symbols that can accurately display characters of different nationalities, some of the new emojis come with a range of skin tones, as listed by Emojipedia. For example, a user that would like to choose the Adult symbol now has a choice of five skin tones — light skin, medium-light skin, medium skin, medium-dark skin and dark skin tones — for a more diverse cast of emoji characters.

The art design for the new emojis are still in the draft stage, but emoji fans can already pick their favorites from some of the previews that are coming up online. Tech Crunch covered the announcement with their own pick of the best and worst of the new emojis coming with the Unicode 10.0 update.
Great Emojis
With the T-Rex coming, it's good that the Unicode Consortium also decided to include the Saurapod to go with this update's theme of diversity. The Coconut symbol is a sorely needed addition, as well as the Shushing Face character. A complete set of Person/Man/Woman Climbing characters legitimizes the mountain-climbing pastime as a sports activity for emoji users.
Not-so-great Emojis
The Face with Raised Eyebrow looks sarcastic and rather unfriendly in the draft design, and some of the new smileys such as Face Vomiting, Exploding Head, and Crazy Face could be toned down a little, too. While the Tech Crunch article may take offense with the new winter clothes including Gloves, Coat, and Socks, the designs just need a bit of work.
