Betty White Celebrates 90th Birthday With TV Special

Actress Betty White is celebrating her 90th birthday with a special on NBC.

White is most famous for her role as Rose Nylund on “The Golden Girls,” which aired on from 1985 to 1992. The show has received more than 60 Emmy nominations and won 11 Emmy awards and four Golden Globe awards.

In 2009, White starred in “The Proposal” alongside Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. In 2010, White was cast in a Snickers Super Bowl commercial and hosted an episode of NBC’s Saturday Night Live with Jay- Z as the musical guest, which helped thrust her back into the spotlight.

Now, the last living star of “The Golden Girls” is working harder than ever with a starring role on TV Land’s “Hot in Cleveland.”

The special, “Betty White's 90th Birthday: A Tribute to America's Golden Girl,” will air Monday but was filmed last week in Los Angeles. Her birthday is Jan. 17. Invited celebrities will include Morgan Freeman, Amy Poehler, Valerie Bertinelli, Ed Asner and Valerie Harper.

During the special, several of White’s co-stars and other acclaimed actors will speak to the comedian’s ability.

“She knows when to pick up on something, ad lib what's happening, but she's also dedicated to getting the work done. She's a very serious person,” Mary Tyler Moore said in a red carpet interview for the event.

Contemporary stars like Jennifer Love Hewitt also showed White the respect she deserves, according to People.com.

“When you work with Betty, you feel like you're a kid who's won one of those radio contests to get to go meet your favorite person on earth and just be in their presence,” Jennifer Love-Hewitt said. “I just sit there all day and stare at her. Sometimes I'm like, she must really think I'm weird, because I'm still looking at her. She's the best.”

White said in a press conference she would watch the show at home with her dog Pontiac and catch up on some indulgences she rarely has a chance to.

As for her future endeavors she remained unassuming saying her future plans were “to stay as lucky as I am right now.”

According to The Huffington Post, the special will be followed by a preview of a new candid camera show called “Betty White's Off Their Rockers.”
