Beyonce's father filed suit against the British tabloid "The Sun," claiming that the paper purposely altered the state of his relationship with his daughter during an interview.
The paper "knowingly and maliciously misrepresented his relationship with his daughter Beyonce, and with his granddaughter," Matthew Knowles told E! News. "My daughter and my family mean the world to me. The barrage of repeated falsehoods spawned by the British 'Sun's defamatory article has been exhausting and personally damaging to me."
"No mater how many papers it sells or web hits it generates, 'The Sun,' like any newspaper, needs to maintain a basic level of journalistic integrity. 'The Sun' crossed the line when it went after my family. 'The Sun' needs to be held responsible for its lies in a court of law. This happens too often to too many people, and it is simply unfair," Knowles explained.
"The Sun" interviewed him in March and made the claim that "Matthew Knowles has reportedly not yet met Blue Ivy." The publication also stated that Knowles and his family were separated and he and Beyonce "let each other go."
Knowles is seeking unspecified damages, and "The Sun" has yet to respond to the lawsuit or Knowles' claims.
Beyonce and her father did in fact part ways for a time in 2011, but only "on a business level," the superstar said in a public statement. "He is my father for life and I love my dad dearly," Beyonce added.
Knowles had managed his daughter's career since she arrived on the scene as part of Destiny's Child. The two decided to separate business and family once it was clear that she was on the solo path and could hold her own. Yet she and Knowles have maintained their familiar relationship and are close.
"We did great things together, and I know that she will continue to conquer new territories in music and entertainment," Knowles said back in 2011.
