Biden ahead of Clinton against Trump in swing states - poll

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is ahead of Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race against Republican Donald Trump in swing states, a new poll has found.

While Biden has not yet decided on challenging Clinton in the Democratic nomination, a recent Quinnipiac Swing State Poll showed that he leads Trump in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Clinton, on the other hand, trails behind Trump in Florida, but has a little advantage over the billionaire in the other two states, according to USA Today.

Based on the new poll, Biden is ahead of Trump in Florida (45% to 42%), Pennsylvania (48% to 40%), and Ohio (48% to 38%). Clinton is behind Trump in Florida (43% to 41%). But against Biden and other Democratic candidates, Clinton still tops the polls among Democratic voters, the report details.

Biden is expected to announce his decision on his presidential candidacy in the next few weeks. But even now, polls show that he will be a worthy opponent in the upcoming elections, The Week reports.

While Trump has maintained his top spot in GOP polls, his favorability ratings have been mostly low. In Florida, Trump is ahead of Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio at 21%, with the other two scoring 17% and 11% respectively. However, his favorability rating is at 36%, with Bush at 53% and Rubio at 52%, according to the Quinnipiac poll.

According to the poll's assistant director Peter A. Brown, the first Republican debate affected the voters' opinions.

"Gov. Jeb Bush got middling debate grades and slips in the GOP horse race," USA Today quotes Brown. "Yet he does very well when voters rate the leading Republican candidates on personal characteristics."

The survey was conducted from August 7 to 18 in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. The margin of error for the Ohio results is plus or minus 5.1 percentage points with GOP voters, and plus or minus 5.2 percentage points with Democratic voters.
