Biennial Convocation for Music and Worship Scheduled for July

NASHVILLE, Tenn.– The biennial national convocation of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts will be held in Dearborn, Michigan, July 10-15. Attendants will explore the issues related to “Nurturing the Roots” of worship through services, worships and class sessions. Music directors, pastors, storytellers, actors and other liturgical artists will introduce music related to transitional churches such as the traditional, contemporary, blended, ethnic and cultural aspects of worship.

The convocation, held at the Hyatt Regency with some sessions planned for the First Presbyterian Church of Dearborn, will take place in conjunction with the national event for pastors and preachers. The United Methodist Board of Discipleship will lead the morning and afternoon sessions for “Preaching from the Center” – the theme of the national pastor’s conference.

Plenary speakers and preachers for the worship convocation include the Rev. Thomas G. Long, Bandy Professor of Preaching at Candler School of Theology; the Rev. Grace Imathiu, associate director of development at Kenya Methodist University; Daniel K. Church, top staff executive of the United Methodist General Council on Ministries; and the Rev. Elizabeth A. Lopez, pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester, Minn.
