Black Friday 2011 Death: Man Collapses in Target, Left Unattended – Later Dies

Walter Vance, who collapsed while shopping at a Target in West Virginia during Black Friday, has died. Customers and employees left the man unattended and continued to go about their business as he lay on the floor.

Vance, 61, had died in the hospital shortly after admittance of possible heart complications due to a prior surgery.

"Where is the good Samaritan side of people?" Sue Compton, a co-worker at Vance's pharmacy that he has owned since the 70s, told WSAZ-TV.

Witnesses at Target that night have said most shoppers ignored the fallen man and walked around him as they continued to shop, reported The Daily News.

"How could you not notice someone was in trouble? I just don't understand if people didn't help what their reason was, other than greed because of a sale," Compton added.

A nurse and an off duty paramedic reportedly attended to Vance when they saw the situation while shopping.

His wife, Lynne, told the Sunday Gazette Mail that six nurses came to her husband's aid and performed CPR on him.

According to WSAZ-TV, Vance was in the store to purchase more Christmas decorations for his beloved pharmacy.

"His friend's say he was a guy who really would help anyone in need," said the WSAZ-TV reporter.

Friends remember Vance as a giving and loving man, especially during the holidays.

Helping injured or sickly people is against Target policy according to employees of the store.

Other incidents occurred during Black Friday as well. A Target employee drove her car off the road and into a canal after working the midnight ship.

Another woman pepper sprayed patrons at a store so that she could grab a video game reported the Huffington Post.
