'Blue Bloods' Season 8 Spoilers: The Reagans Take on the Mob in Episode 4

Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria (Marisa Ramirez) investigate a detective's death on the upcoming episode of "Blue Bloods" season 8.

Titled "Out of the Blue," this week's episode will see Danny and Marissa find new leads on a slain detective, who was gunned down before testifying against a career criminal. Frank (Tom Selleck) personally gets involved in the case after Garrett (Gregory Jbara) is targeted by a SWAT team, while Erin (Bridget Moynahan) defies Anthony's (Steven R. Schirripa) orders and meets up with a confidential informant.

The promo opens with Frank saying the department will need all the help they can get to solve the case. A frustrated Danny shows up at the crime scene and expresses his anger over the loss of their star witness. Danny later enters a barbershop and confronts a man whom he thinks is responsible for the detective's death.

It was recently announced that original cast member Amy Carlson will no longer return as Linda in the show. Her character was abruptly killed off in the season 7 finale, leaving many fans disappointed over how the program handled the actress' exit.

Carlson's onscreen husband Wahlberg recently said at a PaleyFest event that it has been difficult to move on, but he used his real-life sadness to make his first scenes as a widower more convincing.

"Rather than try to act or find something to do, I just thought about my friend Amy Carlson," he said (via Entertainment Weekly). "I thought about all the years together and all the highs and lows and the ups and downs and the journey. Any tears I shed in that scene was really Donny shedding them for Amy ... She's a dear friend. I cherish our friendship."

The eighth season of "Blue Bloods" airs every Friday night at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
