Boston Bruins Injury Rumors 2016: Malcolm Subban in Stable Condition after Suffering Fractured Larynx

Goalie prospect Malcolm Subban of the Boston Bruins suffered a terrible injury on Saturday during a minor league match after getting struck in the throat by a puck. According to the team, the 22-year-old has been diagnosed with a fractured larynx but is fortunately in good condition.

The accident happened when Subban was doing his regular warm-ups before the game for the Providence Bruins against the Portland Pirates. The medical staff immediately responded by sending him to Maine Medical Center for observation, but was later transported to Mass General to undergo some more tests and evaluation.

On Sunday, the team announced that Subban will be out of action indefinitely, but they will be providing more information once they get additional details pending the medical evaluation and tests. And while there is growing concern about the severity of the injury, the Canadian goaltender eased those concerns by posting a photo of him smiling at the hospital.

The 2012 first round draft pick of the Bruins is currently 14-8-5, coupled with a .911 save average for Providence this season while playing in 27 games. His brother, P.K. Subban, also plays professional hockey for the Montreal Canadiens.

Following the incident, the team released a statement detailing what happened and Subban's current condition.

"Malcolm Subban was struck in the throat with a puck Saturday night during pregame warm-ups. He was transported to Maine Medical Center and was diagnosed with a fractured larynx."

After starting in one game in the NHL last season, he failed to impress the team by giving up three goals based on six attempts, which is why he was relegated for assignment in the Bruins' AHL affiliate. He also was recalled to provide backup to Tuukka Rask the week prior because Jonas Gustavsson had to take some time off due to an irregular heart rate.
