Boston Bruins vs Pittsburgh Penguins takes place in the Stanley Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals Game 1 on Saturday night in a match up many had expected to see for the conference title since way earlier in the season. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream (details below).
Both teams have had their challenges to overcome to get this far – Boston had a tough regular season, where as Pittsburgh had numerous injury woes. However, they have both managed to overcome their stumbling blocks to arrive here and face off for the Prince of Wales Trophy.
Many Bruins fans are still amazed that they have made it through to the conference finals, seeing as they were just minutes away from a devastating loss in Game 7 against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the quarterfinals. However, a breathtaking comeback, led by Patrice Bergeron, saw them win through in overtime.
Their reward was a relatively easy tie against the New York Rangers in the semifinals, which was all over in just five games. They have now had six days off to prepare for this game.
The Penguins meanwhile were also just minutes away from losing Game 6 against the eighth seeded New York Islanders, which would have pushed the series to a decisive Game 7. However, Pittsburgh took things to overtime where they eventually came out on top. They have now gone a full 7 days without playing a game of hockey, with their only comfort being that the Bruins have also gone nearly as long without playing.
Tonight's Game 1 puts the two best defensive teams in the Playoffs against one another, and this is expected to be a tight series, where a single mistake or piece of brilliance could decide things.
