Boxing News 2015: David Haye Confirms Ring Return, Will Face Mark de Mori

British boxer David Haye has been out of the picture for quite some time now, but his unexpected exit three years ago left fans wondering if he'll return to the ring. That question has been answered when he announced his return to fight Australian boxer Mark de Mori in January at the O2 Arena in London.

The 35-year-old is not getting any younger, but his Jan.16 fight date proves that he still has the hunger to pursue another heavyweight championship. The last time the 2001 silver medalist of the World Amateur Boxing Championships fought was in the summer of 2012 when he stopped Dereck Chisora in the fifth round.

Haye talked about his plan of moving up to heavyweight title contention once again. "I'm so happy to be able to step back through the ropes and back into the ring, where I do my best work," he said. "I've always set the bar high in my career and I will continue to do so," the British boxing star added.

There really wasn't that much talk about his return, especially when he decided to close his own gym in Vauxhaull, eventually selling it via eBay. But no one could blame him since he was always bothered by injuries. As a matter of fact, he was slated to slug it out with Manuel Charr two years ago, but a hand injury sustained in training forced him to pull out. He also pulled out of a fight against Tyson Fury after getting a serious cut to the head, coupled with a shoulder injury later on.

Haye is a former heavyweight champion, having won the WBA belt in 2009 against Russian giant Nikolay Valuev. He currently holds an impressive record of 28 wins (24 Kos) against two losses. De Mori, on the other hand, is no pushover, having lost only once in all his 33 fights so far. He also has 26 knockout victories and is currently ranked #10 by the WBA.
