Bring on the Blitz

Football season is upon us. And as a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, I can't wait to see the heart-pounding action on the gridiron this year. The game brings to mind one of the most effective tactics of the Media of Mass Deception – the "Blitz."

As I noted in the last few articles, the Media of Mass Deception (MMD) negatively affects the core values of the American people through a variety of tactics. The Blitz refers to the sheer volume of repeated MMD messages. It is a bombardment, a constant barrage, of the same idea. As it is with repetitive advertising, we hear the same message over and over – so much that we actually begin to believe it, whether or not it aligns with our core biblical values.

Since we tend to be a "input in, input out" type of people, we must be careful not to accept as true what we see and hear simply because we see and hear it so many times!

Because of the Blitz, many unsubstantiated theories have become culturally accepted as fact. Two perfect examples are "global warming" and "evolution."

As little as 15 years ago, the idea that the world was hurtling toward its own demise due to global warming would have been laughed off as science fiction. (Weren't we talking about global cooling in the 70s?). But today, thanks to a well-orchestrated and pervasive media campaign, many Americans believe we need to inflate our tires to slow down our own scorching descent.

Al Gore's documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, has played a foundational role in the Blitz. Yet a British court ruled the film had nine significant errors made in "the context of alarmism and exaggeration." Even the New York Times noted that "some of Mr. Gore's central points are exaggerated and erroneous." More and more, scientists are disputing the core claims of global warming, but the Blitz keeps pounding away at the public, convincing many, including many in the Church, that millions must be spent to avert this disaster.

For years, American public schools have taught the theory of evolution as doctrine on the origin of mankind. Yet, the very term "theory" means it is not a proven fact. Far from it. But when was the last time you watched a Discovery Channel show or a pertinent news cast where they disclaimed that evolution is an unproven and very poorly constructed idea? Perhaps never. In the MMD, the theory of evolution is fact, regardless of the inconsistencies.

In this age of instant media, we must be both discerning and wise. Bad theology, bad theory, and bad ideas have a way of creeping into the culture and the Church – masked as fact. We must take the time to think carefully, research arduously, and process messages critically. And we must train our children to do the same.
