'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 2 Spoilers: Kyra Sedgwick Joins Cast as Holt's Enemy

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" will be joined by a woman who played one of the toughest female cops in TV history. Kyra Sedgwick, who played Detective Brenda Leigh Johnson on "The Closer" for seven years, will join the cast as Deputy Chief Madeline Wuntch.

Wuntch is the longtime enemy of Captain Holt, executive producer Dan Goor told TVGuide. She is "a person with whom Holt has a tremendous amount of history and all of it bad. There will be a lot of negative pressure on Holt and the precinct because of her."

It's an ironic twist, given that Sedgwick's former character was almost always under pressure from her superiors thanks to her innovative methods of solving cases and getting the confession. "The Closer" was an immensely popular series, and fans were sad to see Sedgwick leave after a successful run. However, the show spun-off the now popular series "Major Crimes," which has retained most of the original cast from "The Closer."

Wuntch is one of Holt's superiors and is sent to the precinct to conduct a full evaluation of the unit. She would love nothing more than to bring him down and bring down the entire squad as well. Will she be successful or be put in her place? That's the question viewers will have to wait until October to answer.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is Fox's latest comedy that debuted last year and features an all-star cast including Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, and Chelsea Peretti among others. The series focuses on the lives of the men and women in the precinct, rather than the actual police procedures. It earned this year's Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical. Braugher was also nominated for an Emmy for his performance as Captain Holt.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" returns to Fox on Sunday, September 28. Sedgwick will make her debut on Sunday, October 5.
