Bruce Lee's Family Working on New Biopic

Bruce Lee's family wants to tell his real life story to the rest of the world. His family, represented by his daughter Shannon Lee, recently announced that they are working on a new biographical film about the life of the martial arts and Hollywood legend. Bruce Lee died at 32, at the height of his martial arts career.

According to a report in the Independent, the family wants to highlight not just his "physical ability" as a skilled martial artist but also "focus on his spiritual and artistic side." His martial arts skills were demonstrated quite well in the films "Enter the Dragon" and "Fists of Fury."

Several biographical films have been made about Bruce Lee, namely "The Real Bruce Lee," "Bruce Lee, My Brother" and "Dragon: The Real Bruce Lee," but Shannon Lee said that "they've lacked a complete understanding of his philosophies and artistry. They haven't captured the essence of his beliefs in martial arts or storytelling."

Not many are aware that Bruce Lee was a "prolific writer." Aside from writing about martial arts and the philosophy behind it, he also wrote poems about "the deeper, less exposed recesses of the human psyche," according to his wife, Linda Lee. Shannon Lee also confirmed that her father "kept an extensive library, was deeply philosophical."

The family has partnered with producer Lawrence Grey of "Last Vegas," Ben Everard and veteran producer Janet Yang to develop the new film. A report in Screen Rant said that this will be the only film "with direct involvement from Lee's family and Bruce Lee Entertainment." Bruce Lee Entertainment was established a few years ago to "generate new material based on the martial artist."

Bruce Lee died on July 20, 1973 in Hong Kong, due to an allergic reaction to a pain-killer that caused this brain to swell. One biopic "Dragon: The Real Bruce Lee" came out in 1993, two months before the death of Bruce Lee's only son, Brandon Lee, during the filming of "The Crow." Shannon Lee was only four years old when her father died.
