'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' News: Game Features First Playable Female Lead, Bionic Weapons and New 'Movement Mechanics'

After news reports of leaked game details, gaming websites shared their initial reviews of the upcoming shooter game, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" following a recent media preview of the game at the Treyarch Studios in Sta. Monica, California.

Based on a review in IGN, the new game, which will be released by Nov. 6, features soldiers who are not only equipped with high-tech weapons, but are themselves the high-tech weapons with bionic body parts and "neural networking implants." In multi-player mode, players can choose from nine specialist characters who have individual names, callsigns and back stories based on the Black Ops 3 universe. Each character has a unique weapon and a unique ability that can be used during gameplay, but players can only choose either the weapon or the ability.

The game's setting is the year 2060, where another Cold War is going on, but this time on the ground. Drones have long been eliminated because of the development of air defense systems. But the battle continues through ground combat. Instead of drones, there are humanoid battle robots and a new breed of soldiers with "robotic replacement parts and neural networking implants." While their bionic parts provide new types of weapons, their neural implants give them the ability to access data that is crucial in combat operations.

For the first time in the "Call of Duty" game series, "Black Ops 3" will feature a female protagonist either in single player or multi-player mode. Previously in "Call of Duty: Ghosts," there were female playable characters but only in multi-player mode. Players can choose their players gender early on the game. The game's script however does not change based on the gender chosen. According to a report, the game got inspiration from "Mass Effect's" Commander Shepard character who can be played as a male or female.

In terms of gameplay, another review in Forbes cited that because of "bio-augmentation," the game brings in a new movement system, one that allows players to "double jump onto rooftops, run along walls and power slide along the floor, chaining moves together to traverse the environment in a smooth, streamlined dance."
