The first photo from "Captain America 2: Winter Soldier" has surfaced on the internet this week.

Disney announced that filming has begun in Los Angeles for the sequel to "Captain America: The First Avenger" and released the picture, which displays the hero with his infamous shield strapped to his back entering what appears to be some type of base.

The company also clarified information on the characters and revealed the actors who are playing some of the new additions.

Chris Evans will return as Steve Rodgers, or Captain America. He will be joined by Anthony Mackie, who will play Cap's partner Sam Wilson, or Falcon. The film's directors consist of Anthony and Joe Russo and the script was penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen Freely. Samuel L. Jackson will also be a part of the film, taking on the role of Nick Fury along with Scarlett Johansson, who will return as Black Widow.

Hollywood veteran Robert Redford will join the cast playing "Agent Alexander Pierce, a senior leader with S.H.I.E.L.D. who often serves as an intermediary between Tony Stark and Nick Fury in the comics." Agent13, known to fans of the comic as Sharon Carter, will be played by Emily VanCamp, who is said to be a new love interest for the hero.

The first film's love interest Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, will make an appearance in "Winter Soldier" along with Bucky Barnes, who will once again be played by Sebastian Stan.

The film's storyline takes place after "The Avengers" with Steve Rodgers attempting to assimilate into modern society after being frozen for over 50 years. Black Widow joins Captain America on a quest to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington D.C.

"Captain America 2: Winter Soldier" is slated to hit theaters on April 4, 2014.
