'Captain America 3' Release Date, Cast News: Daniel Bruhl to Play Nazi Scientist Villain, Robert Downey Jr. Weighs In

Before 2014 ended, Marvel was able to tell the fans some of the details of its upcoming superhero blockbuster offering "Captain America: Civil War." Among the updates was the announcement of "Rush" actor Daniel Bruhl joining the sequel, though the studio didn't say who the 36-year-old Spanish-German actor will play.

The latest reports indicates that the "Inglorious Basterds" star will be involved in the soon to be released film as its villain.

"As suspected, he's playing a villain in the new Captain America movie. Specifically, he's going to be taking on the role of Baron Heinrich Zemo. The Baron is a Nazi scientist, one who survived the second World War, and the fact that he's included in the Captain America: Civil War roster seems to confirm rumours that the film will centre on the Superhuman Registration Act," Den Of Geek claimed.

Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr., who is slated to appear in the movie as his famous character Tony Stark/Iron Man, spoke with Empire magazine for its "Avengers 2" cover issue. In the interview, RDJ revealed the details of his involvement in the next picture.

"They said to me, 'If we have you, we can do this, or Cap 3 has to be something else. It's nice to feel needed. And at this point it's about helping each other, too. I look at it as a competition and I go, 'Wow, maybe if these two franchises teamed up and I can take even a lesser position, with people I like and directors I respect, maybe we can keep things bumping along," Downey said.

The 49-year-old actor teased that it might not be the same as how the comics portray Iron Man's involvement in "Civil War."

"The biggest question is, for Chris and for Cap, how do we bring Cap to a place where people go, 'Man, I never thought I would see such a vast change in Steve.' After you see Snowpiercer, you're like, 'I want to see a little bit of that guy,'" he explained.

"Captain America: Civil War" opens in theaters May 6, 2016.
