'Captain America' Civil War Cast News, Update: 'Inglourious Basterds' Star Signed to Play Villain

Recent updates about the upcoming 2016 superhero film "Captain America: Civil War" indicated that actor Daniel Bruhl is joining the cast to play the role of a villain.

In an announcement made on Friday by Marvel, the studio confirmed signing the "Inglourious Basterds" star in playing a villain role in the film in addition to Chris Evans, as Captain America/Steve Rogers and Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man/Stark.

The 36-year-old German actor will also be appearing alongside Chadwick Boseman, who will debut as the Black Panther, Samuel Jackson, Sebastian Stan, and Scarlett Johansson, among others.

The Europe-based actor is one of the region's most celebrated actors having earned multiple accolades and nominations from award giving bodies like the Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG and Critics' Choice Awards.

"With Daniel's ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said.

As for his role, Variety cited their sources saying that Bruhl "may not be the main villain" in Civil War but "could potentially be the top menace in Marvel's Doc Strange."

Joe and Anthony Russo will return to helm "Captain America: Civil War," which is scheduled to hit the big screen May 6, 2016. Rumors further came out saying that the Russos will likely be taking over the Avengers franchise after Joss Whedon's "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" is completed.
