'Captain America Civil War' News, Update: Email Hacks Pointed Out Talks of Spidey Joining Sequel

In light of e-mail hacking activities going on this week, a rather surprising detail was picked up by the hackers and leaked to the web. This concerns about two major film studios discussing about Spider-Man joining the character's list on the upcoming superhero flick "Captain America: Civil War."

A report from The Wall Street Journal indicated that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment have had talks about the Spider-Man character joining his allies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"The e-mails reveal extensive discussions between executives at Sony and Marvel owner Walt Disney, all the way up to their respective chief executives Kaz Hirai and Robert Iger," the publication wrote.

"In an Oct. 30 e-mail, Sony Pictures president Doug Belgrad tells [Sony motion picture chief Amy Pascal] about a potential scenario that would see Marvel produce a new trilogy of Spider-Man movies while Sony retains 'creative control, marketing and distribution,'" WSJ went on to say.

In another e-mail exchange, Pascal was cited telling a business partner that Marvel had been eyeing for the friendly neighborhood guy to join the Civil War. Needless to mention, the webslinger is in fact an integral part on the comic-book version of the story.

WSJ however noted that all these talks eventually "broke down" and in an effort to clear things up, Sony announced last month a "Spidey summit" which they planned to take place by January. The summit, as stated by IGN, will discuss the "in-house future of the franchise."
